Obamacare question
whats this I'm hearing about I have to get insurance or I'll be fined $200 dollars?
Anyone know anything about this?
I wouldn't even know where to begin in terms of what kind of coverage I need, where I can get the best deal etc because I've never had it before.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provisions_of_the_Patient_Protection_and_Affordable_Care_Act#Effective_January_1.2C_2014
quote:
Under the individual mandate provision (sometimes called a "shared responsibility requirement" or "mandatory minimum coverage requirement"[74]), individuals who are not covered by an acceptable health insurance policy will be charged an annual tax penalty of $95, or up to 1% of income over the filing minimum,[75] whichever is greater; this will rise to a minimum of $695 ($2,085 for families),[76] or 2.5% of income over the filing minimum,[75] by 2016.[77][78] The penalty is prorated, meaning that if a person or family have coverage for part of the year they won't be liable if they lack coverage for less than a three-month period during the year.[79] Exemptions are permitted for religious reasons, members of health care sharing ministries, or for those for whom the least expensive policy would exceed 8% of their income.[80] Also exempted are US citizens who qualify as residents of a foreign country under the IRS foreign earned income exclusion rule.[81] In 2010, the Commissioner speculated that insurance providers would supply a form confirming essential coverage to both individuals and the IRS; individuals would attach this form to their Federal tax return. Those who aren't covered will be assessed the penalty on their Federal tax return. In the wording of the law, a taxpayer who fails to pay the penalty "shall not be subject to any criminal prosecution or penalty" and cannot have liens or levies placed on their property, but the IRS will be able to withhold future tax refunds from them.[82]

just go to https://www.healthcare.gov/ or your state might have its own health insurance marketplace. if you aren't eligible for coverage through your job you can get insurance from the 'marketplace' if not you have to get it through your employer. depending on how much you make you could be eligible for a subsidy, or if you don't make much at all you might be eligible to participate in your states medicaid program, which have been expanded in certain states.

If you have money or stuff like this, you should have had your insurance even before obamacare came into operation.
If you did not care back then, why should you care now. Just go get one! I mean millionaires don't go around shopping for best deals or worrying about $200 fine.
My medical insurance cost more than $200. Haha!
huh? i didnt even read your post, i was just answering the op's question _________________

that's that makes, but not the reality. in some states where the medicaid expansion is good there is opportunity for people to get coverage who couldn't afford it before, but if you go above that poverty line the insurance still costs a substantial amount for a lot of people, though they have done away with pre-existing conditions and stuff so it is a step in the right direction but its by no means 'affordable'

its great because it mandates people buy private insurance on the market but at the same time provides no mechanism to bring down prices in the market aside from increasing the risk pool to include more and healthier people, which doesn't really make much of a difference when private insurance companies are still allowed to exist and can just pass the cost of their CEO bonuses onto patients
the best part is all the bad parts of the law will be blamed on socialism and the solution will be to roll back obamacare and privatize medicare and medicaid lol _________________

I don't even know where to begin for looking for a good deal, or what avenue I would be able to get the best deal through - as an individual, or through a single member llc, or my state job.
This is all new to me, and I am too dumb and uninformed to even know what questions to ask and what things to consider.

do you get insurance through your employer?
if not go to healthcare.gov probably. if so, you literally don't have to worry or think about most of this as long as your job gives you insurance _________________

No, I don't work enough hours to get insurance. Maybe I should call and see if they have a part time, co pay deal available.

just go to healcare.gov, input your work info and it will tell you how much your insurance would be. if you think you can get a better deal with your employer (you probably wont if you are less than 30 hour a week employee) you can compare with them, but you will probably get a substantial subsidy from the healthcare.gov thing.
this whole thing is so fucked though im glad I get decent insurance from my employer (which is still way overpriced imo)

I have been trying to sign up for weeks. It says my profile is incomplete and I need to verify my identity. Under my profile it says my Identiy has been verified.

you'd probably have to have really shitty company healthcare for individual coverage on the marketplace to be a better deal even if you qualify for a subsidy _________________

Yeah, the subsidies are shit. It looks like as an individual, I will be paying out 200-250/mo(after subsidies) for plans that have a 3k-5k deductible.

you hit the nail on the head. this plan was stupid because it is still attempting to make a for-profit healthcare model work. It doesn't even deal with the problem of rationing.
Long story short... the ACA blows... BUT it is probably a small step in the right direction... I guess. _________________ I 40-0'd your mother.

wouldnt this have been really cool?
650mill website.
launch day, really no one can log in.
they patched healthcare.gov. like 2 months later.
now most people can log on. unfortunaly the payment system and other end game content has not been built. thats a future patch.
insurance companys report receiving worhtless data, incomplete if useable at all. people who percived that they sucessfully completed the process online yet do not receive any additional information and are informed once they seek more information that they are responsible for the phone tag etc.. to verify on thier own that they are covered.
thats a pain in the ass brother!
obama shoulda dun teh tru G nigguh n maid it rein!
for the same money spent on a
website
...
every single citizen
could have received a
check for
one million
to be spent on whatever in the hell they wanted to do with one million dollars.
oh and also
another one million dollar check
to be spent on health care related costs
dat b 2 fun n ez tho rite?

you heard it here first folks. healthcare.gov literally cost $300,000,000,000,000. i thought it was impossible to spend more than the entire GDP on a website too, but it looks like obongo found a way _________________
