lol naman... I pard him more than anyone else because hes a solid ally. Good all around player and can adapt to the game.

It's funny how these debates seem to be ongoing. There's been so many people who were amazing 1v1 players in the last 15 years, and the game changed quite a bit that it's pretty hard to compare anyone really. I really do think a lot of the folks that talk about being the greatest ever (within the last 2-3 years) are just so out of touch with reality.

Like a few others on this board, I've played this game since the day it came out. I was playing mulitplayer on Kali before Shlonglor even wrote his strategy page (which was part of the inspiration for Axo to write this page btw). I played games with Arch, Shlonglor, Platypus, Creed, Lord_Helmet, Dr@sh (ash), Dethwlkr, Stlkr, Aias, Gothca!, the Azteca and Metal phase, you name it we all played together back then.

I've seen the newer guys like Swift, Viruz, Kanuks, Shotgun all claiming to be the greatest ever--I should put KHB and Nerzy in that list too I guess since they didn't really get good until 2000-2001.

I've played very cool guys like YWFN, SC~Terror, the entire SC clan in fact, ~Redrum, etc. and every single person has played amazing on any given day. They really have.

I've invented or co-invented strategies back in the 90's and pretty much Ash and I wrote the book on Maze (with Aias and Axo's help).

But I've never claimed or desired to be a top tier player. I only competed in 1v1 ladders a couple times back in '97 and I made it to #2 and #1 a couple times on Cases and TWL in '98-99 but it was moreso just to see if I could do it. I've always enjoyed 2v2's because they were so different than a 1v1 and the strategy was awesome.

When shared vision came out the entire gameplay changed. People became better so much quicker. Strats that use to be secret, and build orders that people always used, everyone copied. People reinvented a lot of cool stuff and modified things, and even today people are reinventing things (like that repair the barracks with 1 peons stuff that Swift does).

But through all that I've seen, and everyone that I've played--and I will say something I'm sure a few of us left CAN say--I've literally played with or against anyone who was anyone in this game. There really are only a handful of folks that stuck out and were always above the crowd. People that, when you played against them, you knew the odds of winning were very very remote but you enjoyed the challenge. These people were the best of the best at their prime. Period.

So in no particular order:

Ash
Nerzyman
Axolotl
Swift (the non-hacking version of course )
mcaDDer
Dethwlkr
KHB
Scrubbo
Incinerate
Viruz
TiLLerMan


On any given day, if they were in their prime, these guys would go 50/50 with each other, but on any given day in their prime, they would trounce the majority of you who are arguing about this.

I'm not saying they were unbeatable--a few of them I do have winning records against--but in their prime these guys were/are the best in my opinion.

A lot of you would never have even played against some of these folks, so you won't know what they were like. A lot of you are very very close to being on that list as well, but without having seen the full spectrum like myself and some of the others have (YWFN, Arch etc), you just can't know what these guys were like. Some of you will disagree. I know Arch has strong opinions and so does Shotgun.


I personally don't feel that you can narrow it down to one person from that list of 11 either.

But that's just my opinion anyways.

Also, those of you who think I put Axo on there because we're friends... let me pose 1 question for you:

Can you go 75-0 on any map, any settings, against any player? Because that's what he did on the ladder, which is why he deserves to be there imo.

heh yeah good list, thing about those players that stick out they gave me real memorable games and moments... 1 of the most memorable was allying Sc~terror, 1 o f my favorite allies even when he was rusty as hell... Once me Nail and Terror and i forget who else were in a FFa that lasted about 6 hours, pretty intense and soo many back and forth moments it was insane... I died at hour 4 as humans and asked for vision and ally from them. These fuckers must've had 1400 and 800 kills it was pretty intense, finally looked like terror was gonna win it vs nail , not with much and i still had 9 mages hiding and absolutely blizzzed the shit out of his chop to midd hall, ogers raxes...He was beyond pissed, crazy thing is he still almost came back to beat Nail... Sadly Nail won and i felt really bad... heh then Terror msged me after a long paragraph how nobody had ever violated him like that in his entire life, his outrage was out of this planet... lol he seriously had me scared... At this time he was playing every day for like hours a day... After this game he didnt logg on to war2 for about 3 months... When I finally saw him, he said he needed time to cool off and that he still couldnt believe that game, yet it was still an epic game but after a few months he was more at peace with himself but yeah it didn't sit quite right with him hehe. Poor guy, I still owe him

Nail~SoL killed himself years later, so in the end i guess terror truly won
Or jungle~SoL in a car wreck
RIP> gentlemen you were epic in ur time

Nail coulda been on that list if his time playing wasn't so short

Kith, I think it's cool that you were able to observe war2 throughout all these years, and I'm a little envious of it.

I never saw Axo, Mcadder, dethwlkr, or Tillerman online even once. Sucks

As for Ash, KHB, and Incin....I used to think that war2 was easy to pick up on if you were good at it once before and that since they didn't impress me on .ru or in the older replays I saw of them then that they just must have sucked relative to the evolution of the game. Of course, I later found out this was a naive opinion and realize now that they have been dealing with the same lack of motivation and interest necessary to playing near their peaks that I have been dealing with for about 4 years now, for maybe 10 years or more themselves.

So that being said, I'll give my two cents and some appreciation to the only players on your list that I can give a moderately fair evaluation of: Nerzyman, Viruz, and Scrubbo. I completely agree with you, these guys impressed me substantially. Out of every single player I've seen on .ru, I haven't found anyone that I would put on the same tier as these guys. In my opinion they all had particular skills that were unique to them and nobody else in the community had, or at least could do as well, including myself. To speak more on that, some of the things I saw them do put me in a state of awe and I simply ruled it down to the thought of "I wish I could do that, but it looks too skillful and too hard to implement," and I didn't even give it a shot.

I think out of all the players, I've had the most memorable ; frustrating ; close games vs Falkentyne aka Kylerean. I'm not about to say he was near the level of that list, but we would frequently play the longest games that would literally come down to 1 or 2 units.

I think Panda deserves to be on your list as well.
He was pretty outstanding.

Haha because most of the lists people put up are created by 2nd tier scrubbers who cant recognise skill above their own level. Top 10 lists are kind of irrelevant anyway, theres probably 3 people who've mastered this game and a slightly larger number who have mastered gow. This is fact not opinion.
