ya , pathetic. it's funny because they had two really great chances to score two goals really early in the game, which could have changed everything. this team never could finish. _________________ "i don't have pet peeves, i have major psychotic fucking hatreds"

http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/article/1271116--missing-cuban-soccer-players-defected-fifa
Cuban national soccer players who disappeared Thursday, a day before their scheduled World Cup qualifier match against Canada in Toronto, crossed the border the same evening they went missing, a U.S. official has confirmed.
A source with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency confirmed reports that at least three players did in fact attempt to cross the Canada-U.S. border Thursday. The source would not say if they were being held.
How the players managed to get to the border crossing at Niagara Falls, where they crossed, is unclear.
The loss of four players left the Cuban team with the minimum 11 players to field a team. Canada won the match 3-0.
This latest defection of Cuban soccer players from elite men’s teams from the Communist nation is one in a long line of players leaving teams for the “American Dream” as Gonzalez called it after the game Friday night.
looool
In March 2008, after an Olympic qualifying match between Cuba’s Under-23 national men’s team and the United States in Tampa, Fla., at least five players defected.
This happens all of the time, and not only in the United States when Cuban sports teams are visiting. So much for the idiots on here that say Cuba is a great place to live.

ORKinman shut the fuck up! Shut the fuck up ORKINman, what do you know about Cuba? Wow, some Mega Fuckers who have professional talent at sport are defecting -- maybe because they realize they can be millionaires??? And they're Mega Fuckers? Ever thought about that? So. Sit down now, you've been FLucked. _________________ i zero bagged your mother

That's a fair argument and a valid point, but it becomes diluted when you factor in that it's in ALL Cuban traveling sports teams. Meet a lot of millionaire gymnast/volleyball players do ya? Sports are a way for the Cubans to defect to another country in search of a life that Cuba cannot and does not provide.

what would have happened if they completely stopped the game at the 54 minute mark, would they have to start the entire game over or just play what minutes were left? _________________ "i don't have pet peeves, i have major psychotic fucking hatreds"

afaik there's no definite rule. If a full half is played, the result might stand, and it probably depends hugely for the reason of why the game should be not played to the finish.
I don't think they'd stop the clock at 54 minutes and continue it later. I'd guess if the game is called, it's either 1-0 as the end result, or a replay of the game. Not sure about this one, though. _________________ "...667 seems to be bereft of anything but silly personal attacks and a general vomitory of retardation"

They were debating that back and forth with the initial consensus as the game being abandoned entirely and having to be restarted from the beginning if called off. After further review, the game would've been restarted at the time of abandonment and played with the scoreline and minute it was abandoned. I'm still confused what took place--after the game, the Costa Rican players/coach were complaining about what an embarrassment the game was due to the conditions, but when they paused the game to decide whether to continue, both the USA and Costa Rican players seemed to be arguing against abandoning the game.
Nobody has come out and officially said what took place when they paused the game, which I find to be a little odd. Ultimately, I would be pissed off too if I was a Costa Rican player because the conditions were laughable. I am a USA fan, but that game really should've been rescheduled. That's kind of the life of World Cup Qualifying, every team has their distinct home field advantages and use it almost unfairly (See: Mexico - Altitude/Smog; Bolivia - Altitude; Jamaica - ridiculous field dimensions/horrible field conditions; Honduras - 105 degree temperatures with 100 percent humidity, etc.).

Yea, a few Scottish fans helped the grounds crew in Novi Sad so the game wouldn't be delayed or even canceled.

Lack of discipline, I can only assume. Dude has no respect, just seems self-centered in every way. He keeps getting into stupid trouble since he came to Liverpool.

The irony struck deep when she pointed at the US logo on her jersey.

Owen Hargreaves (England), Jonathan de Guzman (Netherlands) and Asmir Begovic (Bosnia and Herzegovina) are just some of the recent Canadians who have elected to play for another country.
