spain is being overhyped so hard. theres a thread on reddit, how would team espana do in the NBA? most people agree they would make the playoffs.

the spanish roster has 5 fucking NBA players, this is ridiculous, they would be the worst team in the NBA because they have zero bench, and they are not a rival to US basketball even though everyone is so desperate for them to be

this u.s team is fucking garbage.. they're just coasting on their size and strength advantage.. but they don't play like a team , it's a lot of 1 on 1.. they have 7 assists total with 7 turnovers with no one with more than 2 assists in the first half of this game..
spain better beat these retards by 20+

that spain team is epic, they only lost because it's a bo1 elimination. seriously pau+marc+ibaka = most dominant post team possible almost, and calderon/rubio is good guard play and navarro has always been a great international shooter.

spain already beat france by 24 earlier. spain has won basically every game by an average of 30 and now they get fluked once and are out heh

i dont think really think that gasols+ibaka is really any better than davis/cousins/drummond (in fact I think its much worse)

pau gasol is like 90 years old, marc gasol was underrated so long that now hes wildly overrated (hes like 12ppg on 45% shooting center, i know hes a good defensive anchor but come on)

ibaka is the best player of the 3 and he doesnt even start.

davis is a top 5 player in the nba, cousins is top 10 and moving up. and drummond is fine. neither of the gasols is a top 20 nba player. ibaka probably is a top 20 player though.

spains advantage is they have more continuuity with the team and potentially better "chemistry" which I think gets overstated. from a talent and athletics standpoint i really dont see why anyone was ever really considering them a rival. the only way USA loses is to come out to a game and not give a shit, and play lazy like shit. and even then, they have to be playing against a good team, otherwise they can be lazy and still win no problems

Sorry to say but I wildly disagree. Davis has the potential to overtake Durant as the best player in the league someday, but right now he's not even Marc Gasol. Despite his Javale-like block rate, he's not yet a polished defender, and he doesn't have post moves. Cousins is definitely underrated by a lot of people but he's still weak defensively as well, turnover prone, doesn't shoot at high rates, etc. It's a shame Spain got upset by a French team they already beat by 20+ because now they don't get to show it, but oh well. (although, I think France has beaten Spain before?) Reminder that two years ago a team with Durant and LeBron and Carmelo and Chris Paul nearly lost to Spain in the gold medal game. Spain is older now but every single player on the US team is worse this year. PS Marc Gasol has never shot below 45% and his career average is over 50%.
