"A keeper is allowed to protect himself within his own box with a knee driven in the direction of the jump/dive directly towards the ball.
This instance was a 50/50 ball between Neuer and Higuain. They both had their eyes on the ball and Neuer did as all keepers are trained to do, and drove knee first within his own box and was able to knock the ball away from the attacker. Incidentally Higuain was directly in Neuer's path to the ball. Both players had their eyes on the ball and Higuain probably didn't expect Neuer to come out as far as he did, thus resulting in him not expecting the collision that occurred." _________________ "i don't have pet peeves, i have major psychotic fucking hatreds"

Neuer has every right to go for that ball in the air in the penalty box

that's subjective.
is it true that a keeper has every right to go for EVERY ball? even with someone in his path? of course not, he can't just barrel through everyone to get to a ball. laws do apply to the keeper.
so obviously there's a line. some contact is allowable, some is illegal
to me, his attempt on the ball is fine, but when he ends up plowing into a guy and destroying him, he crosses the line. if they both ran into each other, it wouldn't be a foul on neuer, in fact, usually they would call a foul on the offensive player in that situation. but the offensive player was not running toward neuer, it was neuer only who flew into him and wrecked him _________________ i zero bagged your mother

yes. if it's in his penalty area, yes.

it wasn't his intention to smash into him but he was trying to get the ball out of the danger zone.. really what the hell do u think he should have done instead? lol _________________ "i don't have pet peeves, i have major psychotic fucking hatreds"

"Impeding the progress of an opponent means moving into the path of the opponent to obstruct, block, slow down or force a change of direction by an opponent when the ball is not within playing distance of either player."
"It is an offence to restrict the movement of the goalkeeper by unfairly
impeding him"
so it's a blocking foul on Higuain
wow, so wrong. first of all, what higuain did does not fit that definition of impending progress. duh. secondly,

what... what. no. there is nothing in the rules that says a keeper can smash anyone he wants if it's in the box. you are completely off the wall _________________ i zero bagged your mother

dude you think goalies have special laws that allow them to commit fouls inside the penalty box. the only special rule for goalies is that once they have the ball in their hands, you can't touch them. goalies are typically given more leeway than field players but the same rules apply to them, ie 1) charging fouls, and 2) dangerous play _________________ i zero bagged your mother

no goalkeepers can't commit fouls inside the penalty area , and Neuer didn't commit a foul. he did what he was allowed to do, that's why the ref didn't foul him. _________________ "i don't have pet peeves, i have major psychotic fucking hatreds"

Charging an opponent
The act of charging is a challenge for space using physical contact within
playing distance of the ball without using arms or elbows.
It is an offence to charge an opponent:
• in a careless manner
• in a reckless manner
• using excessive force _________________ i zero bagged your mother

do they even call charging fouls on goalkeepers? lol. i mean it's basically their job to charge at the ball if it gets near, especially in the penalty area. _________________ "i don't have pet peeves, i have major psychotic fucking hatreds"

in high school i was a utah/US soccer grade9 referee (competitive youth ref)
http://www.ussoccer.com/referees/resource-center/online-training/grade-9-referee-course.aspx
the test was like $35, the test was actually fairly difficult. Used to make $18 a game to be a linesman (AR), and like $24 for being the head referee!
i always preferred being the linesman because I was only ever head ref for like U-12 and younger, generally U-9 games. (i was certified to ref slightly older than that, but as I was like 16, they never made me be the head ref for kids as big/old as me).
but that linesman job I got to watch a lot of good games, tournament semi finals and finals. shit was a pretty fun summer job, great memories.

That was a 50/50 ball with no malicious intent by either player--these things just happen, especially with the goalkeeper. Goalkeepers are a protected breed, like quarterbacks in football, so referees tend to side with them.
You cannot obstruct the goalkeeper's path when going for a ball. That's not to be confused with standing your ground and the goalkeeper runs into you; it's not the offensive players obligation to move out of the path of the goalkeeper, but on the same line you cannot move into the path of the goalkeeper without committing a foul (think charging in basketball).

i probably would watch the finals of the U-20 womens cup if the united states were in it.
otherwise, i dont think its even broadcasted here nationally. I don't even think the mens u-20 cup is broadcast here nationally, unless you count ESPN Deportes as national. ESPN Deportes is way better than regular ESPN, btw.
