best hall spot at 2
which hall spot gives the fastest gold flow: the one all the way to the right, the one diagonal to the mine to the left, or 2 spaces to the right and one down from the one diagonal to the mine to the left?

they are both about the same. You can surround the hall by buildings a little at both spots but its a pain in the ass to do. I prefer the hall spot on the far right just for defensive purposes.

i've tested this out
the one all the way to the right is usually fastest
the one that's diagonal is a little slower
the one a couple spaces to the right of that one is really slow
i don't like wrapping my hall anymore because it might speed up your gold but it also slows down your wood, and also it costs you a little gold early on for walls which could mess you up in a 12/2 war

I like the one on the left because it flows better late game and I don't have to constantly be watching to move my peons. If I'm in the middle of a fight and building my peons with hotkeys they clog the gold if my hall is all the way on the right. Also, I normally play defensive early from 2 so I don't really worry about the slightly slower gold at the start.

I like what incin said because its underlooked... At 2 (hall to the right) and 11, peons needs to go around the peons that gets built and exit out of the hall. It can definatly slows down your mining if you are attacking or managing units somewhere else on the map, your mining goes from a 3 spaces walk to a 4 or 5 spaces walk until you remove the peon. That's why 5 and 9 have the best overall mining speed, in my opinion.

i like to use build it close to the entrence so i can use it as part of my choke setup (yes i know it's 17+ walks away and your peons will pop outside of your choke BUT ITS A GOOD STRATEGY DAMMIT)

yes that's true and i did think about that, but unlike incin i don't hotkey my halls. as soon as a peon pops out i move it to gold and make another one.
also, late game the hall to the right has the fastest gold even if they walk 1 extra space. try putting your hall in one of the other 2 spots and have 25+ peons, they get all clogged up by themselves

Same i dont hotkey my hall so i have no problem or barely. Actually with a hall at right you have a way better mining late game than at 12.

I barley use spacebar. Spacebar means waiting for the units to make the sound like "im out of the rax rdy to fight melord!", which means that it already popped and you should already be building another one.
Well in fact its impossible to be rdy every time an unit or building is done. I just dont have the reflex to use spacebar, but im pretty quick and accurate to click on the minimap. Also i put the mouse scroll in maximum so that it takes about 3 seconds to go from one side to another of a 128*128 map. So if i dual at a spot next to me i will just scroll to the other hall. If i dual far away then i will click on my bases on the minimap because scrolling waste more time.

whats new?
EDIT: Oh, the hall at the far right is usually best, just because it is much harder to kill earlier game.

most people make it to the far right so it must be the best position.

Why would you not use the spacebar? It cycles up to the last 5 actions. Team vision and the cycleable spacebar were the two best things War2BNE came out with.

Hall spot far right is best for defensive purposes, which might not be a big factor in 1v1's, but in 2v2's it makes a difference. Wrapping the hall in buildings is bad. I tend to make my mill all the way at the top in 2 (not above the treeline but where it sorta looks like a mill might fit. Then I chop early below the hall right of 2, and before I get throught the tree line I start chopping above the mill at 2. Seems to work nice for me.

can't believe you guys play without hotkeying your halls. At least the first 2 halls. I don't like space bar because it always takes me back to the wrong place. _________________ Be well,

Ganz, whispering to kanuks : "Stop asking me for 1v1. I know i can't beat you. Leave me alone, let me play my "game" and claim my fake record over everyone."
Kanuks, to ganz : "Ok, at least you know you are a blowhard. I thought u were actually believing your own crap. Your retardness could be worse."
