As of right now there are a lot of things going on lol
First.. i do see a lot of potential. A LOT. but i think its going to take the right people doing the right work to make voobly a suitable place to play
We were able to get 6-8 people in games today, but we had to download like 4 different programs and make little modifications to the individual programs to make it possible.
Once we were in the games lag was a huge factor in almost all of them. The games were either lagged or choppy except when i had a 1v1 with Mich_ from voobly and Ganz.
The lay out and style is basically the exact same as Zone which is pretty cool i think.
So the Good news: we were able to get past a bunch of barriers and host/join some games. it took a lot of work but a lot has been learned i feel like. Hopefully lance is able to communicate some of these issues with Elusive so hopefully the kinks can be worked out. If you are able to join a game, you are able to host a game
it does fix the hosting problem.
The bad news... yeah, there is a lot of work to be done yet. Unless Lance, Elusive, and others find a way to:
1) make the transition painless - 1 or two simple downloads/installations and BOOM you're ready to play war2 with almost no other assistance/guidance needed
2) Find a way to fix the lag issue ... right now it's not like Zone used to be: Hoster clicks launch, everyone types /cd war2 pkt:4 in CMD window --- instead you just click launch and it starts the war2 program for you.
i feel like if that whole pkt:4 thing is implemented or whatever i think that could fix the lag problem
3) right now we're testing this with the Wacraft II Battle NET Edition which does not have the latency settings. I feel like those latency settings would be valuable.
i dont know.. there are a lot of kinks but yeah, progress is being made and there is definitely a lot of potential there. a lot. i guess time will tell how determined some are to make it a reality.
it was really a pretty productive first or second day i think... _________________

here is a game with 4 people that star recorded on voobly.
pay attention towards the end how easy it was for him to pull a peon. the peon was literally a step or two away from entering the gold mine.
i dont think it was ever that easy for me to do on .ru
seemed like you had to pull them at least half way before they got to the gold mine or you were screwed.
the game almost looks choppy, but the units are literally more responsive than on .ru.

A ha! I have been using it. Don't voobly have to open ports???
IPXwrapper is a winsock wrapper which transparently tunnels IPX packets over IPusing UDP port 54792. To use it, simply copy ipxwrapper.dll, wsock32.dll andmswsock.dll to the directory containing your legacy program. _________________ Or you could just use Tupac's hacks and that'll really fuck shit up (you know, the one that likes to think he's the savior of war2 and an angel, ya.... that one).

Man this feels like a step back words. So you all want to go back to ipx. Instead of fixing the source code up for pvpgn. I mean iL just announced he compiled his own pvpgn source.
The chat in ipx is stupid and voobly has premium features hopefully we don't end up paying to play there....... _________________ Or you could just use Tupac's hacks and that'll really fuck shit up (you know, the one that likes to think he's the savior of war2 and an angel, ya.... that one).

most people think the chat is better - i was assuming it was as well, but now i think you have a point: no one would be able to message someone in another game anymore. that's actually pretty bad, no more /f msg "how long til you get out" or anything like that... hm
however, one thought is that this would fix the hosting issue. everyone could host.
the other thinking is that if we joined up with a bigger community we could get new players. im not sure.
the cheats/fog of war/etc stuff was around in the old kali days. it's not a big deal, you just don't select that stuff when you host if you dont want it. _________________ i zero bagged your mother

xin doesnt exist in 1.7x, I didnt think shared vision did either, but it does exist. The thing that doesnt exist are the tvb settings. It's always melee which isnt an issue for me since thats usually what I play anyway, one could say that it might confuse new players but in the early days, people got along with it just fine. Hopefully todays teenieboppers are smart enough to figure it out.

Yes, it does have RTC. Right back to the game settings screen like it was in the pre-bne version on kali/kahn.
IMO I like the older style because you can change game settings right there in the game rather than have to recreate the game everytime.
One other note is that since it's chat is IRC based, you can join the channel with mirc and setup something similar to what I use when I am streaming. When someone msgs you, it simply speaks to you via text to speach. But I think teamspeak is actually the best alternative to messaging someone in game. The only issue is that some people dont like to talk for whatever reason. No mic, etc. There are ways around /f m. Skype for example. It can do text->speach as well as voice. There are lots of ways to get a friends list. Might not be as useful as pvpgn, but I still think hosting for all trumps everything else at this point.

Melee != 1 peon. Where'd you get that retarded idea? If you mean fixed order, yes it still has that. As well as default map settings. All of which are complete and utter BS lol.

Your just getting ahead of yourelves tupac n blid... pretty sure you wont be clicking multiplayer-ipx-create/join
I was playing other LAN emulated gameserver for c&c less popular than voobly (gameranger.com)that also hosts a hundred of other rts games and it autoclicked those main menu buttons for you lol, if you were the host it'd autoclick 'create' and so on.... btw gameranger has built-in mic chat (yes that feature is for premium, which is a once in a lifetime payment of 30bux) hell, should we gp to gameranger if voobly doesnt meet the expectations?
