That's actually a perfect demonstration of how to report someone for not taking a ss. I think I will post this on the site as a reference for newbs. _________________ squeak

There's one problem with that. No one can post here other than those who already have accounts or those that have 100s of accounts here already Accounts are generally disapproved. Even legit accounts. Just ask the plethora of people who have been denied for suspicions of being "Lance" (erm, that would be yours truly of course) on a proxy or some other such non-sense and never received approved accounts, or those that stuck out the ridiculous scrutiny such as Winchester. I always find it amusing when this forum is used as some sort of resource for War2 that new players can use when it really isnt. All they can do is read it, not actually use it.

people aren't rejected for being lance, they're rejected if they look like bots and not actual war2 players. but actually they just rarely review the new account requests _________________ i zero bagged your mother

IDK about that, I have at least 7 people from my stream who have applied here, none actually got an account. IMO the reasons are likely that they were denied mainly because they are "unknowns". Although it's difficult to discern if they were disapproved, or never even looked at to begin with. So there is no way to prove or disprove my suspicions. I just tell them that it's likely they were not approved because they were not known people in the community and most just shrug it off. A couple were put off by it.

theyre not looked at to begin with usually. sometimes axo posts a list of names who have applied and asks which ones look like real people. but usually axo needs to be notified specifically if you want an account approved

I have never seen a post like that. He must do it in some other section as this is the only one I've ever posted in. I've never had the time to look at all the other sections like general, etc.

True, but I meant the level of detail he provided (request, /ping, allies windows, refusal, stats screen, game report). No possible room for uncertainty. :D
The last time I emailed Axo for help with my forum account, I received a reply approximately eight months later. (But he
did
reply!) iL and I both agree the forum situation is pretty lousy and should be improved; I can easily set up a new forum at forum.war2.ru, but the question remains of how to get people to actually use it? Importing existing users/content at an absolute minimum, but it's not something we can do without Axo's blessing. _________________ squeak

The correct method would be to simply point the existing domain name at the new hosts, transfer the PHPBB data if possible (which I dont think is possible with the lack of access), and then implement proper spam filters so as not to have to hand verify every freakin account which can take literally months as Mousetopher as several others explained. Thats really the only way you'll be able to "move" the forums. No one is going to go to a different URL. War2 players are to lazy to type in/remember a new forums URL.

It's the same reason I can't upgrade this POS old version. I'm trying to get it updated to the latest phpbb still.

I thought about to migrate this forum to war2.ru domain.
I agree with test, the proper way and the best method to migration is to take the forum database, restore it on our servers and make redirect from here to there.
I'd be glad to know what does Axolotl think about that and to do it with him together.
I dislike some kind of stealing the content or visitors from the Axolotl's project.
If he agreed, that could be the easiest way: he make everything he can for redirect (maybe just http-link to the new site, i'm pretty sure 301-redirect is not possible for him), and for dumping the database (Is there any button in phpbb admin panel to make the database backup? Should be i think).
If nothing possible or Axolotl is gone, we have to do some kind of forum parser to grab the content at least from the server.war2.ru forum section. To keep all the useful content about technical solutions or game tactics on war2.ru side.
And I think would be good to keep both forums. This one is well-known by everybody and it's total freedom of speech here, new one will have some kind of moderation with structured topics.
Maybe need some kind of syncronization from old to new forum while new one is not well-known by community... _________________ War2Combat 3.05: http://war2.warcraft.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=264401 (13 Mb)

That's true, this is the premier domain name. Here's my post from another thread:

The problem with forums has always been this: this forum has been the War2 community's location for almost 15 years but it's not affiliated with the server at all and the guys in charge are pretty disinterested (what a great url though)
So the only way to go really would be to open a new forum and just have two forums. Most people would probably just keep using this one though, and the new one might not be checked that frequently. But really, people mostly come here for non-War2 stuff so it wouldn't be that bad to have a separate forum where new users can be approved etc.
Summary: if this forum can't satisfy the needs of the gaming community because it can't approve accounts, etc, then just open a completely separate forum and have two forums. You're not gonna get a migration or anything like that _________________ i zero bagged your mother

Agreed. If we actually made some strategy threads (preferably with links to youtube) and mini-articles about hosting/watching (unless it'll be made on mouseys site, then it be redundant), it be awsum and could attract new players.
filthy spammers and retired niggers everywhere here, and new players actually interested in war2 cant even make accounts or posts. What can go wrong!?

well, if you are sure the new empty forum will go up, that would be easier, need not any actions.
I just meant that could be quite difficult to invite people to absolutely empty forum. I hope i'm wrong and everything goes fine.
I hope several threads posted manually could be enough to attract people. _________________ War2Combat 3.05: http://war2.warcraft.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=264401 (13 Mb)

who cares what he thinks? If the content migration isnt happening, he doesnt need to know, because firstly, his opinion doesnt matter that much, and secondly, he doesnt give a fuck lol. ~~3months response time is the cherry on top
