Running Warcraft 2 with Ubuntu
Hi,
I wanted to try Warcraft 2 again recently, and downloaded the combat-edition. Then I installed it like normaly and tried to run it under Ubuntu and wine - with no success. I tried installing the reg-file ( wine regedit War2noCD.reg ) and I started the no-cd-loader (wine War2noCDloader.exe), but it everytime says that I need a CD. Is there any known way to pass this?
Furthermore, if I insert my CD, it starts, but it doesn't switch to Fullscreen, so I see the taskbar instead of the full screen. Is there any way to pass this? I am using Ubuntu 12.04 with classic gnome desktop.
The third issue I have with Warcraft 2 and Ubuntu is that Warcraft 2 isn't able to find an IPX network, and so I can't play in home network. Is there any way play, if I got only an TCP/IP network?
Best regards,
DaGeRe

have you tried a virtual machine?
i really like them but i think you may have to have a vm able video card to make the gaming more playable.
i know war3 is playable under wine..or so teh youtube video said it was.

Thanks for your advice, I've tried it and it worked for Ubuntu itself (so I was able to open a game), but it wasn't possible to connect this Ubuntu Computer to another Computer with Windows 98 and the game.
Fortunately, I found something to get Warcraft 2 on modern Windows working: IPXWrapper (http://www.solemnwarning.net/ipxwrapper/ ). It somehow tunnels IPX over UDP, so if one got an TCP/IP-Connection, one can play with each other via UDP (but I only tried this with Windows 7, no clue weather this works with Windows 98 ). This way it's possible to play Warcraft 2 with two modern computers via LAN.

i dont get the lol,if hes trying to lan ipx style, well kali.net is still the best program and you dont have to use the traker if all connects to the host ip .
it works for lan ipx not sure if wine makes it work in linux.
win98 is what its made for win7 works also.
if you do this, in the options of the game make sure its pkt:3 if all good connections.the response time makes fastest way better than ef then.
but if he is trying to make people play bnet bringing them in on a "lan".i have no idea.
a win98 compatable wireless card?idk im sure its possible though.
