Pretty certain it's not about actual compensation but expenses. Kind of what Ywfn suggested, I suppose.

its sad but its probably the only way they are able to stay in business .. feeding off of other's weakness --- wanting to keep their companion alive/well as long as possible.

i've had to put 2 dogs down so far, and have had friends family have to put theirs down ... one thing i've learned -- dogs that old don't get better, atleast not for any amount of time that justifies paying the insane amount of money.

im sorry to hear that your dogs time seems to be coming to an end .. im sure he was a great addition to your family. time for him to chase rabbits, dig holes, and chew on furniture in a better place
