So, since all tvb games count as ladder, playing custom maps will effectively get you banned from server. great. :/

I think you might need to host tvb in order to get "use map settings" as an option, so melee might not be an option.
But as far as I know though, for now you still can play customs, even for ladder, as long as they use resources. Just can't play free games. I'm not sure how I feel about BGH being used on ladder though, heh.

So are ALL custom maps banned, or just ones with 'unlimited' res?
Either way, it seems silly to make restrictions on customs, since over half the games being played on bnet are on custom maps.

we're trying to take the half that's not. the purpose for the server is to recreate what warcraft used to be like before free castles and helms deep and that crap took over. they're trying to expand the amount of players that play the maps that we like... not trying to expand the number of newbie faggots that we want to strangle for wasting bandwidth on the server.

Well mr fascist guy, did u ever think that newbs practice on newb maps cos it's more fun than lasting 2 minutes in gow. And maybe after playing for a while they will move onto other maps. My fave maps atm are chop farms and chop mini, thou I also play the built in maps. But the point is without custom maps there will be fewer players and thus fewer games, making anyone who logs on less likely to stick around.
If ur idea of keeping the game alive is (as you say) to ditch half the existing players I find that rather depressing.

our idea of keeping the game alive is collecting a bunch of new players that don't know any custom maps and teach them to play the maps the game was intended to be played on, effectively replacing the custom trash with promising new players. keep in mind that as much alleged hacking that goes on in our half of the game, its probably 1/4 as much as what goes on with custom players. you don't seem to understand that the whole idea behind this server was a non-custom server from the start. it doesn't even come with map editor. i can't remember ever going to a basketball league and grilling them for not including baseball players.

Well Burnt has recently clarified that the ban does not include chop maps, so infact not all customs are banned only certain ones.
But regarding your argument above, it is simplistic to simply put everyone into 2 groups those using 'built in' and those using 'custom'. There is infact a noticable crossover. There are newbs who start on bgh then maybe graduate to built in maps. But also there are a number of players (such as myself) who like to play both types.

its overcomplicated to think the way you are. if you play both kinds its quite simple. log on the russian server to find ladder players... log on east to find custom players. no need to make this political because you have absolutely 0 chance of winning. you're representing the green party.

Switching servers back and forth is inconvenient. But no doubt as more ppl move onto ru then this will include some chop players.
Thankyou for saying i represent the green party. That is a massive compliment because it means I have some sense. Republicans may be the ones in power but they are pushing the world towards a global warming disaster. For example they may find it harder to rig the elections in Florida once most of Florida disappears underwater...
