For me, Warcraft 2 players are defined by skill level dependent upon the era in which they played their most games and were at their highest skill level; Warcraft 2 today is not Warcraft 2 pre-B.Net days. There was an actual map selection from the players back in the day, which was also a double-edged sword because it could make for some frustrating times. For example, I used to hate NWL (A league on Kali--Rivaled Case's Ladder) for the same reason I don't care for what War2 has ultimately evolved into--One settings all the time. I thought NWL sucked because pos/low was the gow/high of that league, but there were some very good players (many of which are not even on this list).
What makes a player "the best"? Is it winning percentage? Is it winning streaks? Ca$h, and Buko@CAN had some of the highest winning percentages and winning streaks, but they aren't even mentioned (at the time I think both had roughly 60+ games winning streaks in the prime of Case's Ladder which was ultimately broken by Axolotl I think?). If you are talking winning percentage and reputation there were few bigger players than Azteca back in the days of Kali. He was the first loudmouth/great player kind of the Muhammad Ali of Warcraft 2 back in the beginning days of conservative online gaming. It was also pretty much generally accepted that DethWlkr was the best overall Warcraft 2 player, but somehow only managed to get to tier 5 on this current list.
The 36th Chamber/Grunt Rushing Freaks (~Mage;.~, ~Warangel;.~, & ~Creed;.~) were always at the top of the team ladders along with The IN Clan (INcinerate & IN-Hell), Agents of Death (TillerMaN, Agent911, iLL), Dark Tangent (DethWlkr, DethMongal, Stalker), Hawaiian (TanthalaS, Ca$h, Loon, Deo), The other IN Clan (*NauticaX, etc.), the @CAN guys (Quasar, Peon, Lammy, Buko, Demolitor, etc.), The random Asian guys with the always changing clan names (~Warbringer, SuperPeon, sosowac), golfers (or whatever random names they had--ut, BoozeCans, Panda), all of which had better players than the majority listed in the previous posts.
There were a lot of great players, especially in the prime playing days of Warcraft 2 that aren't listed. Shared vision did a lot for creating better players faster and the skilled players started getting phased out by fast clickers who mimic their craftyness and only play one setting--gow/high. Today's players would find it frustrating to play back in the day, because gow/high wasn't the only setting played. Not to mention, remember the pkt:8 days? What a mess that was--I don't know how anyone had patience for that. The majority of the best Warcraft 2 players, in my opinion, never made it to B.net because of StarCraft.
i agree, that's why making any list like this is silly...it might make more sense to break it up by "eras" (i.e., pre-bnet, early bnet (1999-2003?), late bnet (2003-whenever .ru started), .ru

Server.War2.Ru(2006-Present)
[TD]Viruz, Swift, Shotgun, [TD]Wargasm, Poscow, BHC-Jesk
Late Battle.net (2004-2006)
Kanuks, SD-Foonat, Rat, SD-Prophecy, Tyrus
Mid Battle.net (2002-2004)
[24-7]Valkrie, Scrubbo, Yahmon, Nerzyman, [24-7]BuzzBomb
Early Battle.Net (1999-2002)
(DI)Ash, (DI)KHB , uc
Pre-Battle.net (1996-1999)
IN.Tillerman, DethWlkr@DT, INcinerate, [24-7]Stalin, (DI)Azteca, Tanthalas _________________ Warcraft 2 Festival VI July 25th-27th!

Suggestions: add Pimster and Guan-yu early bnet
Axolotl and kith-kanin pre bnet
Wargasm late bnet instead

Not sure about Propehy and Tyrus being quite good enough to be one of the few on those lists. I really have no idea about Buzzbomb and uc so if people think those guys make sense then that's OK I guess _________________ i zero bagged your mother

I remember Tyrus winning alot of the IW2PL tournaments by SoC~Nedok and I believe some early IGL ones as well. He was pretty impressive there for awhile. _________________ Warcraft 2 Festival VI July 25th-27th!

I don't disagree. But I do find it funny that you failed to mention that you, without question, should be removed from that list. it's odd you wouldn't mention that when talking about who should be removed, being how obvious it is that you're the goose in that list.

I remember doing well against the others in that group back in the days. (Pimsters league etc). But nowadays I shouldnt be near any top 10 list.
Having said that u can replace me with YWFN. _________________ GreenHorn: Nexus cried every time I beat him but still thought he was better.

hmm.. when did Pimster league take place?
I just looked at Burnt's Tournament Winner list (and from memory) it looks like I peaked 2002 or 2007 and should removed by that reason. _________________ GreenHorn: Nexus cried every time I beat him but still thought he was better.

Rat I would say you have been top 10 for almost decade now! Maybe you have the ability to play better under the pressure in tournaments! _________________ Warcraft 2 Festival VI July 25th-27th!

Old posts I know, but uc = undercover.
He was a fellow Greek and a pretty good player. He played kali and early bnet where we allied a lot. He always refused to meet me IRL cause he said he didn't know what to tell his GF about meeting someone from the internet.
He went on to be semi-pro at War3.
Only other Greek players I've known were PBuck and MCadder on kali, and also some fastest player who made me promise not to reveal he was Greek for some reason
edit: Buzzbomb is the guy who played 2000 games in 2 months
Re edit: I actually think it was 2000 wins, not just 2000 games in 2 months. He went from newb to near top player by the end of that
