I like the hip writers: Fitzgerald, the guy who committed suicide, Hemingway, all those guys. Some of them were alcoholics and drug addicts but they had fun. They were real people. They formed the culture of American literature. Hemingway admired Tolstoy, Tolstoy admired Pushkin, and Mailer admired Hemingway. It all flows down. The greats are all connected. One day I'm gonna write a book myself. The first chapter will be about what a rough deal my momma got. She believed in you guys and your society.

Last week I read the Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Two weeks ago I read Princess: A True Story of Life Behind the Veil in Saudi Arabia Vol 1 by Jean Sasson.

To name just a few.

I am about to start Warren Buffets book The Snowball effect.

the first thing i did when i started posting here again was make a book thread. a few of you douches gave obnoxious replies. one thing that was really funny was ash saying that he loves tolkien and that most other books are boring

i liked cat's cradle far more. i just finished galapagos not too long ago as well and that was also excellent. god bless you dr kevorkian is up there for me. cat's cradle is my favorite though.

I like cat's cradle more than Slaughterhouse Five also, but I was pretty young when I read Slaughterhouse. i thought galapagos was one of his weaker books, i think i've read 8 and that was probably my least liked.

Have you read anything else by Murakami?

I really liked Wild Sheep Chase and Dance Dance Dance was good too. I also read Kafka on the Shore, although Sheep Chase is my favorite of those three. ghostnuke is a jerk and when he asked which murakami book i'd recommend and i said Sheep Chase he went and asked for Hard Boiled Wonderland for Christmas instead.

I think I like sh5 better because I was about 14 the first time I read it and have since read it upwards of 15 times, whereas my boyfriend's sister gave me Cat's Cradle a year ago, so its not quite a "classic" to me yet. I tend to read books I like many many times.


I re-read One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest about a month ago... hated it the first time, but really enjoyed it this time.
